Can we still download parent site?

Can we still download parent site?
I searched "download parent site" and couldn't find answer. I had it downloaded on my old laptop which won't crank now. I want to keep it in case this site and others get shutdown and would like to download it to my new laptop.
Is it still possible to download the site?
Is it still possible to download the site?
Re: Can we still download parent site?
I was clicking the link first, which is wrong, and got a 401 page not found error. Went back and tried to save it to my computer and it doesn't look like there is any way to save the file as...
Re: Can we still download parent site?
That is the older html/javascript based site. I think it was being hosted on Harry's site, and it was removed several years back, and I am not sure why.
The new parent site is php based, but I should be able to get a 'final' html output 'local' site built, and a .zip file made.
Please DO NOT blindly use a site sucker on the site, and if you do, make SURE you have rules to keep it from sucking the wiki, and the forum. Site suckers will pull 100's of thousands of pages from the forum, and also from wiki. Site suckers do NOT know how to pull the forum (or most any generated) pages correctly, and in the end you will get dozens (or 100's) of copies of many posts, and things are not put together well at all. The parent site is now 'generated' pages, but those pages are designed in a 'static' way, that are spider friendly. NOTE Running a site sucker, may get your IP banned from the site. I have written some software that heuristically monitors site activity, and will send me text messages when it believes bad behavior is detected, and will 'auto-ban' certain bad behavior.
But let me see if I can get the parent site into a .zip download format.

Re: Can we still download parent site?
Not the smallest project. I am using a offline site reader to get the 'flat' html content (vs the original php scripts I wrote). However, I will have to make some fixup (or changes in my php code), to get this working better, along with some content was not pulled down (site suckers are NEVER right). I have an afternoon of moving band equipment on and off the field today for our HS marching band, but then I should be able to get something out pretty quickly when done.
NOTE, there will be some pages that 'appear' but that are 100% non-functional. The 'setup/customization' page on intro, my v2 pot calc, and the EtOH temp conversion pages will not work fine. They are php scripts, and thus will NOT run outside of the real website.
But hopefully, I can get an offline copy done within a day or so. This one should follow the updated website fully and correctly (with the few caveat pages that can not work).

Re: Can we still download parent site?
LOL! I have no clue what an fn site sucker is. Just let me know if I can download the site. I worry about the govt shutting us down/\.
Thanks

Re: Can we still download parent site?
They really could do no such thing. We have many off site copies of the parent site, and of the forum databases. The forum software is 100% Opensource 'free' software. I have made modifications to it, but it would run 100% out of the box, simply by installing on a new server, setting the database up, and restoring the database data from a backup. Pretty simply, we would only have to host offshore to the US, and would be back online within a day (or severarl days), IF the gooberment ever tried to shut us down. However, we are very very small fish, and doing nothing illegal by posting educational text. Trust me, this website has NEVER produced a drop of ethanol. The people that read this web site 'probably' have, but the web site itself never has, and can not produce any ethanol.

Re: Can we still download parent site?
I have updated the parent site to again have a downloadable copy.
Here is a direct link: http://homedistiller.org/homedistiller.org.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow This is also linked on the resources download page of the parent site ( http://homedistiller.org/resources/download" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow )
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you want to have the parent site offline, download this file. DO NOT simply try to run a web site 'offline' spider to pull the parent site.
This .zip file contains all of the html, graphics, pdf files, EVERYTHING from the HD parent site. It has been done in a way that works properly offline. All php code (almost) has been converted into flat properly usable html code. In other words, it is now static, and not dynamically built. If it was dynamic, then you would HAVE to properly setup and run a web server on your local system, ane properly have the php interpreter present. That is quite a LARGE setup, where simple 'flat' html pages are easy. Simply open index.html in the root directory (and tell the browser it is 'ok' to read files from a local directory), and things work fine.
There are a few pages which will NEVER work properly. The pages I know that will fail, are:
/intro/Customize Website
/calcs/pot calc (v2)
/calcs/ETOH Temp Conv Calc
I know those will not work. On the real parent site, you actually log into the raw PHP pages, there is a conversion to html, but the original php page is REQUIRED to make anything work. Also, the first page (the customize website), is there simply to modify the site cookie. On the downloadable parent site, there is no web server, and cookies are not used or usable.
Also, since there are no cookies, the site will not remember which page you are on, when you switch to different sections of the site. So if you click on a different section (the top menu across the page), it will always dump you to a 'blank' page, with the big still picture in the middle. The real site remembers where you were at (if the cookies are working properly), and returns you to the last page you were looking at on that section. Again, since the local files are not using a web server (and php), there is no memory, so the pretty pot still will show each time, and you will have to select the proper page from the left hand menu.
However, all of the parent site data 'should' be there.
If people find problems, please shoot me a PM.

Re: Can we still download parent site?
An example of a site sucker would be a program like Teleport. You just point it to a web address and tell it what you want it to do, i.e. download the entire site and make it viewable offline. But alas, the program is dumb and will start downloading the forum, wiki, etc causing a tremendously high usage of HD's bandwidth. This is, of course, poor form and will trigger the heuristic house-maid program to ban your dumb asses's IP address, triggering you to email Husker in a mildly panicked frenzy to make sure you didn't "break something" and pleading to get your IP addy un-banned (provided you have not otherwise been a bad boy or girl ). This makes more work for Husker which I'm sure he needs like a 3rd nostril in the middle of his forehead.jsanders wrote:LOL! I have no clue what an fn site sucker is. But, I mean, I'm just saying...
Purely hypothetical situation.
Not that I would know anything about this happening in real life, ya know.
Just helping out and adding to the conversation.
Okay, no more questions!
Wait a minute, you didn't ask anything... dammit it.
I'm gonna go now.
Thanks for making the Parent site once again available for downloading to view offline!

Re: Can we still download parent site?
Thanks. I appreciate all the work you guys do to keep the site up and running. It's the best source of info on HD anywhere I've seen. Now,put my "doner thingy" up!!
I know you're busy and I'm kidding.

Re: Can we still download parent site?
I got it downloaded. I like to have it with me when I'm running the still and don't really set up where there is wifi!
