Baked grain flavour

I am on my 3rd ferment of sour mash using Uncle Jesses recipe
as per his instructions and have a slight baked flavour .
Any thoughts on how to elimenate this . I am using a reflux still run fast.

Are you clearing, or running with some grain and solids in your boiler? I am on my 5th generation, and things are still producing fine. Mine tasted / smelled fine from the first (sweet) generation. It did get a bit nicer on the 2nd/3rd but not a huge amount. Now it seems to produce about the same quality each time (very good quality). But I semi clear each time by racking into a carboy for several days in the fridge.
