GNC Mega Men Sugar Wash

This is a recipe I am working on developing that seems promising... I have some GNC Mega Men Prostate & Virility dietary supplement pills kicking around and decided to use for a sugar wash based on the nutritional values... I started the first wash one week ago and the SG is down to 0.995 today and almost done fermenting, producing one bubble through the airlock every 3 seconds so it should be done by tomorrow... The only difference between the first wash and the one I just made up is that the first wash only used 2 tablets while this new one uses 3 tablets for comparison... I'm getting more aggressive airlock activity using 3 tablets but I won't know if 3 is better than 2 until all is said and done...

Once both washes are dry and cleared I will combine them in my still to run in my normal fashion of stripping and then running the diluted low wines through my reflux column...

Future tests might include leaving out the Peters 20-20-20 and perhaps the Epsom Salt and baking soda, one at a time...

Mega Men Sugar Wash 2012-10-09
  • 4 liter wash
  • 4 cups white sugar (2 pounds)
  • 3 Mega Men Prostate and Virility Caplets
  • 1/4 tsp Epsom Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Peters 20-20-20
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp Fleischmann's Dry Active Bakers Yeast
Made a yeast starter using 1 cup warm water, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp yeast, and letting it proof for 15 minutes.

Pitched yeast @ 1:15pm

6+ bps in under an hour

2012-10-09 : 6+ bps OG=1.090 (temperature corrected)

Stay Tuned...

Dietary supplements specific for men are better in nutrients for yeast.

I got a bunch of mega men sport vitamins laying around from when I use to work out, but I quit, got fat and don't go anymore. Gonna watch this thread and if it comes out good I might knock the dust off the bottle and make a wash with em. Cool beans rad!

The SG was down to 1.032 yesterday... The first batch is clearing nicely...

If it doesn't taste like turbo it should make a nice clean neutral... We shall see...

Well, here are the results for anyone following this topic... The second wash finished early yesterday and was cleared today so I did a pot still run using a 6" packed column extension so I could monitor temperatures for shits and giggles... Both washes had a starting SG of 1.090 and a final SG of 0.987 for a potential yield of 13.3% ABV... The first wash took 10 days to finish and the second only took 7 days which means the additional vitamin tablet helped speed up fermentation...

The boiler charge was 8 liters... It took 1.5 hours from the first drip until I shut down with the temperature at 207.5F... Total spirits collected was 2 liters... I was collecting at a broken stream take off rate from start to finish... I held back the first 100ml as foreshots and the second 100ml as heads... I kept 1.4L of 120 proof hearts but could have kept more... I collected 400ml as tails... The hearts are so smooth I'm not even going to bother trying to clean them up more by running again using my reflux column...

What really surprised me was that there was almost nothing in the bottom of the fermenters as far as trub so I racked all be about ~200ml or less out of each wash...

Will I use this recipe again...??? You bet...!!! I'm happier than a pig in shit...

I did a third Mega Men wash using only three tablets for nutrients, leaving out the Epsom Salt, Baking Soda, and 20-20-20 fertilizer... OG = 1.090 and FG = 0.988, or ~13.2% ABV... I didn't recheck the wash until day 13 but it was most likely done between days 8 - 10 based on previous SG readings... What this tells me is that the three tablets are enough to fully complete fermentation but the other nutrients speed the process... I am now out of these supplements so I'll have to buy more if I intend to continue experimenting...

So this wash may be a good drink for a weak Peeing man to get strong and make babies? What?

Love your reserch. Gerber always comes out nice and my last batch of all bran with a spin using raisin bran and graham crackers came out quite nice for making apple pie.

Not to be a wise guy, but.... how come you use metric for liquid and for everything else you use "normal" American measuring data? You makin' me crazy trying to covert liters into gallons and quarts and oz. :D :)

Rad:

How did you do with Sandy? Just wondering.

If you have any Viagra left, toss a couple into the next batch, could be a real winner.

Bull.

All we got was some rain from Sandy... And only minor isolated power outages from wind and tree damage... Thanks for asking...

No Viagra to try so someone else will have to do that expensive experiment... :lolno:

It's no easier for me to have to convert all metrics to US either... I consider a quart and a liter to be virtually the same thing as far as our less than exacting science goes... I use 30ml as a conversion to an ounce... As for tablespoons and teaspoons, there are plenty of conversion tables to handle those so I just go with what I use... And my experimental wash jugs are 4 liters which is why I use that measurement for small washes...

@HawkingRage

Glad the simple sugar wash recipes are working well for you...

Mixed a 6 gal. batch of this up and within 30 mins. I was getting 2 burps a second in the airlock. I left out the 20-20-20 and baking soda, just added some yeast nutrient and a pinch of epsom salt. Starting SG 1.084. Might have to wrap the bucket with a wet towel its gettin very warm. I don't think I've ever had a ferment start that fast and get this hot.Had everything but the sugar which only cost me about $8 bucks. Thanks Rad!

Finally got around to runnin your mega men wash New Year's Eve Rad. 5 gal wash + 1 gal of feints I had from a birdwatchers run. Ran low and slow on my pot still bout 8 hrs total run time. Tossed out 300ml as fores, collected round 800ml as heads and ended up with a gallon of drinkable at around 60%. No tails collected. Thought the taste was very good for one run on a pot still. Agree with rad, I'll definitely use this recipe again. Next time with some reflux.

When you said at the beginning of this post that you used 3 of the gnc caplets are you saying 3 actual caplets or 3 packs of caplets. As in vitamin packs.

Pulverized into very fine powder, mixed thoroughly in about a cup of warm water, and poured into the wash...

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had tried refluxing this and if so how clean did it come out? How would you compare it to something like Wineo's POSW? I'm always looking for neutral recipes to try in the hopes of finding the cleanest one possible.

I've never considered doing anything except refluxing it for neutral spirits... Never done WPOSW but it's as clean or cleaner than Birdwatchers...
