Question for anyone who has welded a ferrule to a pot
I just have one quick question: I successfully put a 2" hole in my pot and now I need to order parts so I can put my element in it. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get the kit off of stilldragon along with a ferrule. My question is how long should the ferrule be? Is is easier for a welder to weld a longer ferrule to the pot? I realize that with a longer ferrule, less element is exposed but I'm not too worried about that. Should I get the 51mm one or the "long" (doesn't specify length) one? Also if anyone has had a welder install one of these how much did it cost? I've never had welding done so I have no idea what to expect and I don't want to get ripped off.

51 mm ferrule is fine the hole will be slightly bigger than the ferrule so it will be a loose fit so you will get a little porosity on the inside of the weld - no big deal. Some shops have a $80 minimum. Should cost you around $20 - $25 if it is ready to weld up and they don't have the minimum charge.
