How much drinkables

Post by stillvodka »

Hello Distillers,

Tomorrow i am going to fire up my new still, i have roughtly 3 Gallons of stripped spirits, i measured the alcohol with my alcometer, it read at just over 63 %.
Out of interest , how much Good spirits should i get? after the cuts.

Thanks.

I assume you're after pure 95.6 alcohol and not whisky, whiskey, rum or any other sort of flavored end result.

Now it's all dependent on your column. a tall (1-1.5m) and with an appropriate filling could get you cuts from everything from 20-60-20 to 20-80-0 or better. The taller your column the better result. If you want no tails you need an ARC. You can reduce the heads by using baking soda in the stripped wash.

ARC = Automatic Reflux Control. Don't know anything else about it....just the acronym!
It is most absurdly said, in popular language, of any man, that he is disguised in liquor; for, on the contrary, most men are disguised by sobriety. ~Thomas de Quincy, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, 1856
