How to use the 'quote' function

Post by Big J »

It looks like the quote function is working fine now. So just ignore what i wrote below. I left it there for posterity.

Cheers,

I finally figured out why the 'quote' function doesn't always work. It makes the posts kinda hard to read, so hopefully this will help us clean things up a little. Apologies if this was already obvious to you.

First of all, in case you didn't know, you can add a new post to the bottom of a thread by clicking the 'quote' button over on the right side of the screen on every post. This will start a new post with the old poster's text already in the box. If you don't want the person's text in your post, just use the 'post reply' button at the bottom of the thread.

The problem is that for some reason the quote function doesn't work properly on this board. This is what appears when you press the quote button:

Code: Select all
My still is bigger than your still.
This is what you need to change it to so that it works properly:

Code: Select all
My still is bigger than your still.
Just remove the ="Joe Distiller" part and then it works fine.

This is what would have appeared before:
Joe Distiller wrote:My still is bigger than your still.
But now we get this:
My still is bigger than your still.
Much easier to read, especially when people use a big quote.

Cheers,
J

I much prefer to do this:

From:

Code: Select all
My still is bigger than your still.
To:

Code: Select all
Joe Distiller:

My still is bigger than your still.
Because then you have listed who made the quote. Athough the proper fix is to get whatever is wrong in the boards "default" processing fixed.

H.

PS, note I had to make a "fix" in your original message (where you see th '=Joe Distller"', because the invalid quoting there (even though in a code section), caused the quotes to be broken.

Bump - looks like some more people need to read this. Good to see it has helped in general.
