I got a couple of hits but they were just people who said they "were going to make it". It tastes good, kinda bland unless you add a little sugar then it is quite nice........i'm debating whether to plant them once I put in my mini orchard next year. When the stores get them they are $11 per fruit!!

Did a little research for you and it looks like they are very high in nutrients so would probably work well in a sugar wash however the flavor would not come through. Skyy vodka and Bacardi rum use it to infuse afterward in one of their products and if I had access to it that is probably what I would try first.

Note: looks like a member hookline was going to do something back in 2008 with it, you might PM him and ask.

I was thinking a Rum based cordial. The sugar/syrup would probably bring out the flavor(at least I think it would.

The funny thing about dragonfruit is that you can buy a plant, which apparently is very fast growing, shipped to your front door, for less than the price of buying one fruit.

I am guessing there aren't a lot of dragonfruit eaters out there, but does anyone have a preferrance of red/white fleshed fruit? I read the red/pink is sweeter, I have only had the white.

Interesting I bought a buddhas hand plant to grow for the fruit, living in a colder climate I have to grow it indoors. How big does the dragon fruit get and being a cactus can it also be grown indoors?

Thanks sounds like a fairly easy plant to maintain, got to get the bosses approval before putting another plant in the house!

I think you have to tie them to a post/fence, but in my reading it seemed like numerous people mentioned plants over 8 feet tall, others talked about how voracious a grower they are and that they take over pretty quick if you aren't careful. For $10 not a bad deal.

I'll get the red fleshed fruit and send my family some Dragons Blood cordials.

Haven't done it.

The red flesh fruit is sweeter and tastier. (They look the same on the outside, both red-green colour.)

Very easy to grow. Well drained soil, and something solid for the plant to climb on, 1.5-2 metres high. Fruit only forms on the branches that hang down.
Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.

Found this at Costco today. It has pretty much the same sugar content as treetop apple juice. Anyone ever drank this stuff? wondering if it’s going to do more than come over as a mildly “fruity” sugar wash run.

I can grow them here , they are a very mild flavored fruit, hardly any flavour really .....Id be surprised if it made a very flavorful spirit.
Ive never had enough of them ripe at one time to try a ferment.

Appreciate the reply SBB. I kinda figured as much. Weren’t no harm in throwing it out there though. Maybe as an addition to a fruit medley or something who knows.

Im with salty. Very little flavour. I had one pop up out of the blue. Had it for years just thought it was a cactus of sorts we had no idea what it was. Then one day got big white flowers opened at night and only lasted a day followed by red fruit. Googled told us what it was.
Personally would do a mixed drink vodka with the juice. Rather then ferment it.

Three different types are grown here in the tropics. The most bland flavoured is the red, better flavoured is the white but best flavoured is the much smaller yellow. The yellow fruit have spines which are easily brushed off when it is ripe. All of them are best eating after they have been in the fridge for about one week and are starting to go wrinkly, the sugars or whatever it is has started to break down and you get more flavour.

The wife and girlfriends were putting sliced dried red dragonfruit pieces in their sparkling wine this week.

If you had enough of the white or yellow flush I reckon vodka or tequila slushies would be a suitable use but watermelon is so much cheaper and better for slushies!

As fresh fruit my Red is full of sweet juice with wonderful flavour….. highly recommended, a great plant to grow.
A fruit far too good to waste on fermentation.
Fresh………. feed and water the plant and allow to fully ripen.

As a big fan of dragonfruit I will try to infuse a vodka next time they're in season, they're really expensive in Denmark when it's not season, 4USD per fruit at least but usually more, while in season I can get them for 2,5 or cheaper if I buy bulk. However since the white fleshed one is the common one in Denmark I won't ferment on it, it simply don't have enough aroma that I find it worth to ferment on and volume wise it's most likely alot like watermelon and will require a lot for a little mash. The red fleshed one have more flavor but is rarely seen in Denmark, we got yellow with white flesh and red with white flesh.

I have been driving across the country for other reasons with my mom and brought back a box of dragonfruits because I live on a small island where the best option to get them is to call my sister's boyfriend who own a supermarket and ask him to order them for me. I really like them, hence why I would bring them home from across the country.

I believe that if you proof it down to 40-45%, add fruits to get it down to about 30 you will get a really nice and tingly liquor. Of course you most likely want to strain it to get rid of most or all of the seeds, depending on what you prefer.
