I have read that most let their final product air out for a day or two or three before putting on the shelf to age. I let my first run a SF air out for 8 days before I finally added my oak strips and sealed up. Is this a bad thing? Can you let it air out too long?

Yes you can but 8 days is not too long. Typically 24 to 48 hours is enough. Personally, I let mine go 1 week or more. Just because I only get one free day a week to run so I run it one weekend and blend it the next weekend. I'd say anything over a week is probably not helping you out any more than a few days but I have to deal with my work schedule so I just get it done when I can.

the temperature/humidity will determine this.you want a small amount of evaporation ,not a lot.

The airing out many talk about is usually done before cuts are made. It aids in making better cuts. Not so much after cuts before putting on oak. But some do this also.

As dunder said. The conditions at which you air at will determine hoe long to do it. I've lost a notable amount in little as one day. I've also noticed hardly no loss in a week. So you need to keep an eye on the temps and humidity levels to determine a good time frame. What container its in will make a difference too. Big open top goes quicker then a small open top.
