A couple quick questions regarding plastic/rubber use....

1) The kit to connect column to keg from mile hi comes with a rubber o-ring to seal. Is this acceptable? If not would wrapping it in Teflon tape Samohon style work?

2) I know after stripping runs you should promptly dilute distillate down below 40abv. Is it acceptable to transfer low wines to the boiler via a racking cane with a plastic hose? If not, what is the preferred method?

i do not have a mile high so i cant help with that but i put my low wines in old vodka bottles and dump it in. do not rack it with a hose.

I do something similar in that I store my low wines in gallon jugs...easy to store, pour and measure.

#1 by the rule #8 no the rubber seal is not good. And by my personal opinion I wouldn't use it. If I had to I would wrap it with PTFE tape. Or get a PTFE seal. Or make a Samohon everlasting PTFE gasket.

#2 I store my low wines in gallon glass jugs. And just dump them into the boiler. If I had a bunch they would go into a 5 gal carboy. And I would still dump it in. But I find it easier to just use the gallon jugs. I don't make so much I need more.

Here's an easy solution, it's probably even posted in a few other theads, but I'll get sucked in for hours if I start looking.

This is where I order alot of my hard to find parts. Most of the time they show up the next day.

I have a Milehi and all the gaskets I have ever gotten from them have been silicone and work fine. I know silicone is not recomended but I've had no issues.
