Well, after watching many episodes of Moonshiners (for the entertainment value), I decided to buy some Ole Smoky. First impression... It smells and tastes like UJSM made by a stingy distiller (too much tails).
My opinion, $25 down the drain. Even my first generations of UJSM are better then this stuff.

Its not that great. I visited their distillery/store in Gatlinburg. Interesting story and such. Tried all their types, only cared for the apple pie and the cherries. Otherwise it sucks.

My apple pie is much better than theirs... actually, everything I've made so far is better than theirs. And although my first run of UJSM burned with a nice steady blue flame...when I dipped a napkin in it and saturated it... when I actually proofed it with a whiskey proofer...it was only 80 proof on a stove top pot still. Good enough for me.

I tried it awhile back and was not all that fond of it. Actually felt and tasted as if it had metal filings in it! Ran some through a coffee filter just to see if I was imagining things...apparently I was, for nothing was caught in the filter and the result still felt almost sandy in my mouth. Very unpleasant. Threw about half of it out. ![Thumbdown ](./images/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif)

Bought some - much like others here, enticed by great marketing. They spent a TON on marketing - not much on the product. ![Eh :eh:](./images/smilies/icon_eh.gif)

Georgia Moon is also a waste of money. It has a burn to it and a nasty dirt like after taste.

I hear that old smokey doesn't make their alcohol that they put fruit in. They make the alcohol in their clear hooch on site. I visited the distillary and tried their stuff and found it not good either. The only clear that was drinkable was their 3x and it was marginal. Now that being said I loved the smells coming from the place . Loved the big vats of mash/wash. The atmosphere was great. The guy that talks to you was good. He talks as if you know nothing which is what he should be doing. The music outside was great and the tasteing room was great. I like that they were able to sell in the store and would say that that is 50% of their gross sales. We stayed in the cabins and every time I went outside I smelled mash. I told the wife that smells like theirs likkker in them hills. I would give the entire visit an A+. Hooch c- By the prices they are proud of their likkkker.
BentJar I have not been through their site but would say that the Georgia Moon is worse likkker than old smokey. I would agree, dirty. Now on the gerogia moon peach jar i was supprised. Not bad. For cheap likker and 70 proof I was suppirsed.
