Hey guys, coming in from Ohio. I am complete noob to distilling. I just finished my still today and am currently running my first batch of wash. Its been kind of interesting tonight I must say. First, I wasnt getting anything to come out..which I think my thermometer must just be off by a tad. Eventually I got the right temp and started getting some drops. After this run its clear I need to patch up my terrible solder job. Haha. All in all I just wanted to get this going just to see what I come up with. I dont plan on drinking anythng that comes out tonight. Mainly because I was unsure about the safety of the copper piping im using. I didnt really clean the inside? Wasnt sure how to go about that. Not to mention, first time soldering..its a mess and I got that flux crap all over the flace. From looking at what I have coming out. Im splitting it up into 150ml cuts to compare and contrast them all side by side. I know my first 150ml was very yellow....everything after that has been pretty clear. Only thing im noticing is there is a ton of particles floating around, and when its shook it almost looks soapy....hope that makes sense. I used just corn for this first batch. It was 5 gallons and sat in my kitchen for about 10 days. I wish I would have found this place before I started with everything. Anyways, by taking a glance around this place seems to have a ton a great info. Im not new to forums so ill be sure to try and search everything before I ask a dumb question...im sure ill have plenty of them. :)

Yeah throw anything you collected away asap. You need to do a proper cleaning run - 50/50 water and vinegar with no condensing so the steam really get into your still. Welcome to the place that will set your feet on the right path!

Thanks man, I was gonna take the plunge and actually take some drinks but I wanted to check here first to see if anyone ever replied to my concern. I ordered some more yeast last night so once it gets in im gonna do another run. In the meantime ill get the cleaning procedure done that you said. I think I may redo my copper line. Im using a 5 gallon stainless steel pot. Bought 20ft of 3/8 (inside diameter) soft copper. I cut it in three spots and used some 90 and 45 degree fittings to make the sharp bends. I had a hard time trying to find some fittings that fit the 3/8's line correctly. Everything at my hardware store was made for 1/2 piping. So I think I may go snag the 1/2 and redo it a bit. Get 'er cleaned up and ready for my next run. Cant wait.
