pot still vs Reflux

was thinking...what is the difference between a pot still and reflux still, they both have a kettle and cooker, column and condenser the only difference I can see is the reflux has column packing so.....if I removed the packing what stops my reflux from becoming a pot still?. alternatively (and I think someone vaguely touched on this before but chose not to give details)..with my T500 reflux still can I make a potstill head and attach it to the top of my Boiler (the T500 column is detachable) so I can alternate it between a reflux/pot (depending on my requirements at the time) by simply removing the reflux column and replace it with the potstill head.
