Sweet Feed brands?

Looking to make a batch of sweet feed whiskey. I have a Southern States store nearby and further out is the CFC Farm Home Center.

Southerns State only has a couple livestock feeds in their online catalog - a horse feed that contains 12 percent sweet feeds and a Sweet Goat Feed. Non ingredients listed.

The CFC has their own brand

The Tribute brand seems to be high fat with a focus on low sugar for mature horses and comes in pellets.

Is there a brand or supplier that people have good results with?

Pretty simple and explained in the sweetfeed recipe thread. Get an all grain sweetfeed. Without pellets.

I Agree with Prarie, Get "COB mix" (corn oats barley) many of them are sprayed with molasses, or you can just add molasses to your batch.

Guess Im one of the lucky ones that lives about 2 miles from a horse race track. They have an on-site feed mill and thats where I went to get my sweet feed. They sell 2 kinds of all natural grain sweet feeds, 1 is what they call dry and 1 they call wet, I bought the wet. Its got alot of molasses in it and is very very sticky. Makes some really tasty hooch.

I found a Tractor supply store about 30 minuters from where I work.

The bag says 10 percent all grain (wonder what the rest is) but the product description sounds like what I am looking for:

Saved me the legwork of driving out an hour to the other places only to find they have pellets with alfalfa, seaweed, and fishmeal or whatnot that I do not need.

With all the rural areas turning into McMansions and condos, it is not easy for me to simply go down the street and spend the day browsing around until I can find a place that has whole grain horse feed. The nearest "feed store" to me no long carries livestock feed. Only dog and cat food. Another place went out of business and the building is still there with the signage, but it's empty and up for lease. Called up the pet food place and they said "Yea we have all kinds" only to be disappointed when their stuff was all pellets mixed with who knows what - and none of it was for livestock.

Thanks for giving me the specific brand so I could search it out online and not have to drive hours out and end up disappointed.

The Pacer brand does indeed have the COB mix that I was looking for.

I'm pretty sure that 10% is the amount of protein in it.

I tried Pacer with mixed results. it was good for a couple generations and then the taste seemed to change. I was worried about the vegetable oil in it. Can the oil accumulate and change the taste or something?
