charcoal filtering

Post by latigo »

Hi All

Sorry if I missed this somewhere but.. Can someone please tell me how to wash out a new bag of charcoal?? I had some sugar wash/ turbo yeast that I was not happy with so I ordered some charcoal from Brewhaus. I ran a quart through 2 coffee filters and it came out BLACK!!!! I left it a few hours and some very minor sediment was at the bottom of the jar. I decided to try and wash the rest of the charcoal with hot water and dry it on the wood stove overnight. Not looking for lectures just hints.

P.S Even though it looks gross its taste has improved 1000% LOL

Success

Washed the charcoal with hot water, dried on stove and filtered my nasty tasting sugar wash product. It got very slow by the 3rd quart but what an awesome improvement. Looking forward to getting better at this hobby so I dont need to do such tedious things.
