Yes, white grapes for brandy. I believe it's the fairly anonymous ugni blanc (french name)/trebbiano (italian name) used for cognac (also the grape of the Modena Balsamic Vinegar).

white wine does not necessarily come from white grapes.

It comes from not fermenting a colored skin. So if a white wine is to be made with red grapes. They only ferment the pressings and not the pulp. Right?

yes also how they press makes some difference,,the "lighter " the grapes are pressed the better the wine comes out.that's where "grappa comes from ,light pressed grapes still have juice so that was fermented skins and all into grappa .

I've done a lot of brandy runs from wine. In an effort to collect some 4L jugs for whiskey storage I've spent the last year buying a couple Carlos Rossi jugs of wine each payday. I just pour all the wine into a carboy, then save the jug for when I'm doing big corn, rye, or barley runs. When the carboy fills up I do a brandy run.

I haven't done white yet, but I've done merlot, blush, and just a sweet table red in different runs. They are all really good brandies. The sweet table red is almost like a port wine brandy. I didn't even bother to oak half of it because it was just so good on its own.

Also, be careful when oaking. One thing I've noticed is that brandy can get over-oaked a lot quicker and easier than grain runs for some reason. I'm not sure why it's so much more sensitive, but it is. I've learned to use much less oak, and leave it in for much less time, than a grain run.

I've also have had success with white wine - the cheapest of all and it turned out quite well.
I've made a small test jar from the stripping run with amr. Oak, rasins, peppercorn and some glyserine.
Be careful with the rasins though.
