Can nixon stone type still with no reflux be used for whiskey making, or am I better off by constructing a simple pott still head with doubler for my system? I'm currently making 92-94% with reflux and potscrubber filled column. Removing the potscrubbers is a bit pain, so I'd rather left them in place.

A column with scrubbers can deliver a much better separation of the different fractions than a pot still.

By catching different fractions in separate containers you have the possibility to mix these afterwards according to your taste.

A very good book that describes this process for homedistillers is "Make your own corn whiskey" of Ian Smiley.

It is available as a book or as a softcopy on his website
