Multiple Aging Stages

I read this article about Rough Rider Straight Bourbon Whiskey and was impressed by the care they take to age their whiskey to grab different flavors in stages. I was wondering if anyone around here does something similar? Maybe 6 months on charred oak spiral, then 2 months on a spiral that sat in wine/brandy/anything to adjust the flavors. I have added vanilla beans for short periods of time to get a hint that I can't seem to pull from my spirals or chips. Figured it was an interested conversation piece.
