First run, wanna help?

Post by kaydoh »

Hey guys, I'm Joe. I looked up the the sweet feed tried and true recipe. I have 6 gallons fermenting of 4inches worth of COB molasses sweet feed w/ 7lbs of brown sugar and 5 packs of bakers yeast. I just did a specific gravity reading and its at .990 on its fifth day. So I gave it a last stir and I guess I'm racking it now and will siphon and re siphon it two or three times before I run it to eliminate the sediment.

I recently bought a turbo 500 still, I know I know I'm an idiot and bought it hastily before finding this place. I like the idea of no open flame though, and I want to give it a run anyways. Does anyone know how I can get around 80% abv on my run? I don't want the 93% abv with all the saddles in. I ordered some extra copper mesh on the internet to replace the ceramic saddles but its on back order. Can I leave half the ceramic saddles out and get around 80% abv? Will that run the still too hot?

Anyone feel like making and selling me a copper pot still head that specifically attaches to the turbo 500 boiler?

Im trying to get your guys's lingo down so please bare with me and maybe spoon feed me some explanations if you'd be so kind. Can't wait to experiment on my first run, I hope I can make something drinkable. I've been an avid likker drinker for a long while haha, time to start learning how to give back.
