I am macerating some botanicals for the very first time in 78% ABV jar. I have dropped 2 tablespoons of dry juniper berries into it, and a few hours later, it looks kind of yellow-ish. Still crystal clear, but yellowish. So how is the store bought gin crystal clear like vodka? they don't use berries but flavorings and essences? it seems that no matter how much I filter afterwards, I am not going to get the yellow out.

Depends on how you produce it, using infusion is going to bring more color across with the flavor of the herbs than with a gin basket carrying the flavor across with the vapors.

Usually white, since it is unaged. If you want to macerate herbs (in stead of distilling them), you will get a bit of colour. Gin is not aged on oak.

If I'm buying Gin in the store..... I prefer it a Saphire color.

You can easily make something better than B. Saphire. No sweat.

Distill it again with the berries; Only gins from hundreds of years ago were left as infusions. The juniper flavor will come through the distillate.

We make gin from a maceration, and there is some lemon peel in it. I assume that is why mine has a yellow tint. I like the tint as it leaves no question as to what I'm pouring!
