Dome Condensing System

Post by mani_hgj »

hi every one
My Grand father had a dome condensing system distillation equipment which work very well, it was an antique one which had about 200 years old or more! unfortunately someone has Stole it from us!!! i couldn't find any picture similar to this one, and just a conceptual drawing of this system:

I have seen a similar design but the dome was concave not convex, I think it as in Lebanon. When I saw it I thought it was an interesting design, very old school and not something you see in the West.

Saw a still in Iraq (before the Gulf War) which had an open pan like a wok with a drain on top of a short column, with a a collection tray like a side outlet funnel under the pan going to a downward slanted outlet tube. Same idea, just pour water in the pan once you get vapor, pan drain was high which made sense. I thought a liquid trap in the outlet might have been an improvement, but then it looked to be lots older than I and presumably worked just fine. Stupid of me not to buy it, probably be more difficult to find now.
Edit- please post pics when you start your build.

It reminds me of a slant plate bok with no packing and different cooling system
My Grandpa used to say. Don't argue with an idiot, because he will just drag you down to his level then beat you with experience.
He also used to say. I didn't say it was your fault. I just said that I was blaming you.

that's exact the same idea. yes, sure, i will upload the pictures each stage, in this design natural reflux will happen, be cause not all distilled drops succeed to reach the drain and fall back to pot.

It looks like a very simple and ingenious design. Can't wait to see pictures

Similar concepts in both the pistorius and Mampoer designs, except the Mampoer usually uses a wet towel and not a liquid bath.

Some of the liquid sealed pot stills use similar principles. I have no doubt it will make a nice pot still in whichever variation you use.
