I have been given a quantity of NEW Toasted Oregon oak staves intended for flavouring wine in tanks, each stave is 50 x 10 mm x about 1m long. If anyone is interested I can knock them back to 150mm for ease of shipping all for the cost of postage and packing. I am in New Zealand

I went on a Distillery Row (a feature of Portland) tasting tour last Saturday (ended with a headache and a nap). At the last stop, they mentioned that their "Double Barrel Bourbon", which they weren't tasting, was the product of taking their four-year aged on American Oak bourbon and putting it in Oregon Oak for 90 days. They said that Oregon Oak was more porous, and had a lot of vanilla and almond flavors. Can anyone confirm or deny these allegations? I bought a bottle ($43.95, WTF!), and was less than impressed with the results. It's not bad, but it's certainly not worth that kind of money.

Cheers.
