Makes me wish i lived somewhere the corn would grow....
would be fun to see the museum display that was mentioned.
I know my grandpa who homesteaded in eastern Washington state farming dry-land wheat, had a neighbor who was a moonshiner of course gramps got him and the sheriff that was on the payroll busted, so he got a death threat and hence always packed a pistol when he was out there after. till the day the old timer was sick and couldn't talk because of syphilis well he had the doctors talk to my gramps cause he was the one who could confirm his veterans status for medical purposes and gramps helped him out when his chips were down ...
I could see how in real hard times they did what they had to do to survive... poaching or moonshine would put food on the table , if you had a harvest of grain or corn, along with little pay, and a family to feed.
but like the guy mentioned his folks just made it for themselves and their family and close friends, not for money... at least til prohibition came in.
