easy reducer

Post by googe »

Hi all, been going to post this for a year or so, this is 11/4" tube around 6" long, you need some.length when making it for strength when working it. Can be used on liebig condensers also.
I made a simple tool for doing the first part of flanges, piece of 10mm flat bar with a 8mm deep slot cut into it with a 2mm cutting disc.
Fold the edges over slowly, moving in small steps all the way around till you've got it at about 25 degree.

Next, find a flat hard surface, vice, cement floor, ect. Lay the tube flat and slowly turn the tube while doing short sharp taps around the edge at an angle glancing the hammer off as you do, check the fit with the tube you want to join it to every few turns.

Once you have a very tight fit, give it a few more turns while whacking it, then I like to finish the inside edge with a round file, just to get I nice even edge.

Then cut off at the length you want and your done.

Can be done on larger tube too.
