5 gallon boiler

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

5 gallon boiler

Post by Bigmanley2 »

Here is my hobby sized 5 gallon pot still should do good on my turkey fryer base do two or three runs to get some decent hooch. all stainless with copper scrubbers stuffed in cap arm about half way up and in 2 gallon thumper pipes plus copper worm ought to get a little less than a gallon per run, enough to last me a while.

A little less than a gallon may be overly optimistic for a single run with a five gallon still. If your wash is say 10% ABV, that would give you 1/2 gallon if it came off at 100%. If it comes off at the usual 65 to 70 percent you might end up with 3 quarts before cuts and if you're lucky, a quart to a quart and a half after cuts.

I did three stripping runs followed by a spirit run and got just under a gallon of blended cuts from the spirit run. I was running about 4.5 gallons of wash in a 5 gallon pot still for each stripping run. How much you end up with also depends on how tight you do the cuts.
