just so ya know that's not a pit. it's actually a bull terrier, as in "spud mckenzy(sp)". however i do feel bad for the poor mutt, it doesn't appear to be a very bright dog.

Animal stupidity is always comical.

I really don't see anything too funny about a suffering dog. No matter how stupid. Can you imagine the pain that animal is in? How would you feel if that was your pet?

Yeah, I'm with you MM. And then to think of making your dog stand there and take pictures of it!!! My first thought would be caring for the dog, not taking pictures to post on the internet

Nah, the dog will be fine. It was having a good time with that porcupine, if it wasnt there would only be one or two quils in its nose. Pain is a good teacher though, I bet he dont do that again. Thats no cityfied dog, he was LIVING.

pulled more than one quill from my dog's nose. retrievers are a little smarter in knowing when to quit though.

that dog was not very smart....gald those pix got posted i would never expect to see that many quills in one animal..or on one porky pine...not that we have them here thank goodness. life is strange to say the least

It's not as bad as it looks--trick is to pull them before the swelling starts in and the sooner the better. Trick is to pull them one ata time. Grab him by the collar, lift him up off his front legs and give him agood shake--whole bunch will just fall out. Then pliers with close fitting jaws and pull only one at a time. On an ill tempered hound it helps to wear welding gloves and duct tape front legs together if you have to. Dogs have very little feeling inside the mouth and even the tongue is no problem. Very end of nose is the ones that hurt --just pull a couple--let the dog shake hell outta his head and go pull somewhere else for awhile. I don't think most dogs are even in that much pain--mostly irritataded like I get with a black fly caught in my ear or eye. Shoot the dog with a cc of comboitic for every 10 pounds of body wieght and then throw him back in the race. Rest assured you will be finding quills sticking outta him for the next 2 months. Check between the toes and the pads on the feet--one spiraling up the leg can cause some long term damage so keep an eye out if he starts limping.
I have seen great big ole hillbilly bear hunters from the SE US just lay down bawling when their favorite hound gets into one but it really ain't no big deal.
Funny thing about hounds--porkys and skunks--seems a dog gets into one or the other and subsequently leaves the rest alone--or-- they have to kill every one they come across.

Bull dogs and the related breeds were bred for bull baiting. They grab onto bulls noses and don't let go. This is how butchers used to get cows under control for slaughter, when dogs were still working dogs and bull dogs were called "butchers dogs."

My black lab mix will play tug of war with my pit bull. The lab always has to let go to try to get a better grip on the rope. The pit bull will hold onto a thread without letting go as long as she can. I bet that bull terrier did the same to that porcupine unfortunately!

Here's another brave bull terrier, en Espanol. It shows a bull terrier doing what comes naturally. Closest I'll probably ever get to seeing a bull baiting match.

i've had my share of dog skunk mixes ,and the dog just don't give a damm it's gonna kill it and stink up the place doing so. if the skunk holes up the dog will destroy the "hole" in this case the underneith of a outside washing machine... wires parts ect... dammm i miss florida...lol we use dogs to catch wild hogs the best "catch" dog i ever had was a pit sharpi mix next was a pit lab mix, i found the pit mixes were easy to handel and hunted by smell more than sight. most pits had to bump into a hog before he found it...ahhh the good ol days pork brought to you by "poachers pride" meat company
