Running the Copper Custom Flute

Hi Guys it's been awhile, but I'm back. Well I now have one of Empty Glass flutes, opened the box and wow this is great, the workmanship is the best I have seen and I have a lot of stuff, it went together easy all the parts fit and man it looks good. Now comes the test. 22 gals of a sugar turbo wash in a 26 gal can powered by a HB electric controller, got her up and going and it took me two litres at about 170 to 185 proof to get to know how she works, it set in at 179 proof at 4 litres per hour for the next 12 litres , the next 2 ( 15 and 16) came out at 170 proof and I shut it down ( I can only drink so much) . This thing could suck alcohol from a rock. The plates EG makes are great ,they all worked from start to finish ( I have to work and adjust my other flutes to keep the plates working) once I figured out how she works I didn't touch it again and being Big Bert is a bit lazy he thinks this is a keeper. All the shine came out clean and pure. For those of you who are like me and can't build and want class with performance this is the unit to buy.
And that's my opinion.....

That's a beautiful rig for sure. One thing I was wondering was what is on top of the delphlagmator? Also because that is just like my flute (mine no where near that quality) being modular and all with tri clamps also holding the sight glasses. I am having problems with sight glasses breaking. Just curious if he has any type of washer on the outside of the glass.

Hi Drinkingdog, the unit on top is what I call a flavour cage,it has 2 cups ( spoons) in side where u add 40 ml ( 20 per spoon) of any liquid you want and it will carry the flavour in to the final product, and if you put it on the down side above the PC you get colour and flavour . Yes EG has a thin cork gasket on the out side of the glass. Had that problem with glass on one of my other flutes so I had thicker glass made and beveled the the glass on the outside edge so it was compatible with the clamp.
I don't have a lot of success down loading pics on this site ( small format) but if you want to see pics of the cage go to the form of coppercustomstillcomponents.com.au

Nice to hear its running nice and putting out good ammounts Bert.
Thought I'd add some pics for you. Some show the one piece pressed flanges, no weld join, full copper. Plumbing is designed to work with common hose so there is no exotic fittings.

I don't know how you do it EG...my one build took it out of me; too much blood, sweat and tears...and you can just turn them out repeatedly for your customers with such exceptional quality.
Well played Sir

Thanks Brendan, I do it because I enjoy it. I like making them and I like using them. I enjoy making them work as good as they can. Since most of the smarts come from Olddog, I decided to call this one Flute Mk 3, in respect to his and others work. Bert might call it something different.
Some guys have asked me how I do the sightglasses, this pic shows how I put them together. Doing it like this keeps the branch length very short and eliminates stress on the lens. I find because they are very short, it gives a great veiw of the plate action and the more expensive 3" lens and hardware is not required. And it all goes into a std off the shelf triclamp, the clamping pressure equalised with the use of a backing ring.

Your work EG, has always been at the top of the shelf, man I've got to get down under to visit both you and Doc. My first priority is this next fall to visit Odin. If I do get down your way I would love to spend a day in your man cave just watching the magic happen!

No worries Big Bert, happy to help. I did a run yesterday with one set up as a 4 plate flute on UJ. I wont say how much I got per hour, but it was a bit more than the 4 litres an hour you got the other day
I did run it pretty hard, so I know you can squeeze a little more out, rate wise.
Your more than welcome anytime Bushman, you know that. But we don't have much snow here at the moment. You might not feel at home in all this sun....
Thanks for the kind words Brendan.

If it all fits right, and your working in a safe environment, you shouldn't need washers at all. You must have too much clamping force or it's badly made. If a gasket is your way forward, be careful with cork as it is often glued together. I got my A4 sized ptfe sheet delivered today, for £4. It would help somewhat, but I would really like to see the job up close to find the real problem.
EG, that flute is artwork.

Gave the EG another run today ,used last week run cut back to 15% just to see what it would do , same as last time but with higher proof. This time I keep it going down to 25% and the plates work full boar! got to get a set of them for my MH. Way to go Empty.
