At the condo for the week and just walked past this water wheel, thought it would make a great little stillin shed!

Use the wheel to power the boiler! . You'd need a bloody good heat in there though, looks frosty

Overshot mill like that should develop enough power to spin a generator big enough to run electric elements . Looks like a lot of water being wasted down the right side unless the flume is coming off that stream to begin with . Shame to see the mill wheel idle . Forgive me for waxing maudlin . I tend to do that when I get in my cups and then see something out of my past that is no longer there

That sure is a neat picture.
Sorry to say I have only ever seen stuff like that in pictures.
Would love to see how they engineered that machine for myself.

Bushman have you been inside the mill?

That looks like the cooling fan for the product condenser to me. just slightly bigger than hobby size.

Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway is the first working mill that comes to my mind from your location . Overshot mill with water flumed in . Sawmill , grist mill , and had an incomplete whisky still last time I was there .

Lot of old mills around where I am. Most of them are in ruin, but I know of at least one very old one that still has the water wheel attached and has most recently been used as a restaurant. This area has always been a huge grain producing area and over the course of a couple hundred years, most of the old mills have fallen into ruin - many of them destroyed during the civil war. Grain milling must have been a thriving industry around here over the years. We see a lot of old millstones decorating stone fences and yards.

It's in OlympicMountainDews back yard, west of Seattle on Hood Canal near Alderbrook. Bill Gates has a 5 home compound across the street that he vacations at. We have a fractional ownership in the area and come down every 6 weeks. They have the windows boarded up but in the summer the wheel is turning and has been an attraction for years. How much it's used or if it's even in service I have no idea. Pretty cool though!

Used to be that the HWY went right by that old wheel until Bill Gates had the road moved to make room for the expantion of his vaction home and the Alderbrook resort. Been an icon around here for a long time. Nice pic Bushman
