got kidnapped and taken on the bourbon trail for my birthday. despite the weather and having a single day, hit 3 great distilleries. amazing time. the guys and gals were happy to oblige with all of my questions. some truly amazing conversations with people who have bourbon in their blood (literally)
takeaway: learned that my white dog is as good as anything. The magic starts once the first run leaves the still

I believe the guy said Buffalo Trace could stop production and bottle for 20 years. 250,000 barrels onsite.
The picture on the brochure at BT shows a plated column, which was a hell of a surprise to me...
They do produce vodka as well though so who knows what is produced with what equipment.

Woodford Reserve uses 3 scotch style pot stills. The rest I visited used column stills

Did you go to Makers? I am going there next week, and they don't list, or at least I cant find online, what all the trip entales? Most of the other ones let you keep your tasting glass, does Makers? Do you get to 'play' with the wax??

Did the Makers run one year a while ago.
You do get to play with the wax if you buy a bottle to take home. No tasting as I recall - the distillery is in a dry county.

Makers does do tastings. Went the day before my wedding. You get to taste Makers White, regular, over-aged, and Makers 46. You can dip anything you buy, if you want. Makers White, ran me about $40 a fifth. Only place you can buy it. They don't let you keep the tasting glasses.

Makers is very beautiful. Its a tour of the whole process from mash to still to barrel to bottle, then like stated, you get to taste. The last time i went it had changed and you only sampled 3 things, the white, regular and 46. The cost also went up to 7 bucks. I think the dipping wax bottle is 40 or so, I didn't do it but be sure to register as an ambassador. Also be sure to taste their mash:) too

Will have to go back - when I went was not able to taste.
The only bottle for purchase was the usual Maker's.
Beautiful place though.

I would take $100, just to be safe. Yes, you can dip bottle and glass. As little, or as much wax as you want.
