well i took my run and stripped it all once with a final product of 3 quarts of crystal clear at 150 proof. it's got a harsh taste after filtering. think it could of been the mash. i did a few shots and havent dropped dead yet though.

now comes experiment time.

i'm doing a 50/50 mix with apple cider, a shot of vanilla and cinnamon extract...

still harsh. any suggestions?

You stripped it and didn't do cuts?, not surprised its harsh!. Did you at least remove fores?. You've been here a while now mate, thought you would have read about cuts and strip and spirit runs?. What wash you doing, turbo one?. Are you drinking it at 150 proof?. You did lots wrong by the sound of it!, need to do some study mate.

150 proof on a strip run??? How high was the ABV of the wash??? Thumper maybe???

That still seems a little high on a strip run

I get 120/ 130 on a strip with my thumper on heads then she starts down from there.If I make a single strip and make cuts then mix to taste I only get around 115 proof.That's on a 10% wash.

150 on a strip?? Seems a tad high....And, you're drinking your strip??? I would expect it to be harsh regardless of filtering or flavoring... I'd expect a headache too!

boy i was off my rocker when i posted that message.

i did strip runs off my 2 washes. tossed first one as the sacrifice. 2nd one i ran again with a few gallons of water. Low and slow this time. tossed the fores, tossed the heads, took the hearts, tossed the tails.

mixed hearts and got the 3 quarts 150 proof. ran that through a brand new (cleaned with water first) brita filter. that helped clean it up ALOT. but i was remarking about it being somewhat still harsh.


more i thought about that, the more i began to question the quality of my wash. i added the corn and rice to add flavor. i think maybe they soured and that might have thrown the taste. hell if i know.


also i won't lie. despite my drinkin habits, i aint never tasted shine before.

oh yeah, when i ran the wash first time it was at 10% alc, second run was sittin at 40% alc. not sure if i phrased all this correctly. i been ran ragged last few days and i am a lil tired.

Let it air for a day or 2 cut her down to 30/40% abv then take ya a sip. Don't drink her over 40% abv I'm pretty sure anything 50% and over can and will do tissue damage.No need to beat the old liver up any harder than we already do.If I am wrong someone feel free to correct me.
