Weather patterns run west to east. Not the other way around.

At least you have higher ground to head to. Give ya a better view when it hits. You'll find me at the top of the nearest 14er. That way I'll be covered in ash and years from now will end up in an exhibit somewhere.

Hope it's a travelin freak show 8)

Of all the potential world ending disasters that's the only one I find really scary. Asteroids? Meh, climate change? We can adapt, disease? We could use a new plague or two, but the Supervolcano? Holy crap... If that thing goes the Midwest will be covered in ash, there will even be ash close to an inch thick along the east coast. Sunlight drastically reduced worldwide, lower temperatures, to say nothing for the country's ability to grow food. Total anarchy, power grid gone for decades... Even the Amish won't be able to weather this one.

But statistically we have on the order of 10,000 years or so before we have to worry.

It's actually statistically due, but the average of 640,000 years or whatever it is (age related space) hides intervals of over a million years in one case. Remember, 5/8" of ash shut down Yakima so imagine what an inch or more on the country would do. No more corn, that's terrifying.

Successive eruptions have literally carved their way through the Rocky mountains forming the Snake River Plain; As others have pointed out though... we'll all very likely be dust in the wind before it happens, but it WILL happen again and again and again.

And as the landmass continues to move in a south westerly drift, SoCal keeps moving away. We don't look so bad now, do we? :sarcasm:
