Finding oak in Western Canada

Post by oilguy »

Any other Albertans here, wandering where you get your oak from ?
Oak from the U.S is pretty costly for freight.

I hear ya about the freight. I just ordered 2 sets of Oak Flavoring Stix from Oak Solutions Group. The 2 sets were $44 each for a total of $88 and then there was the $78 freight. Talked to them about the freight and even checked a parcel with USPS was like $70. Have read quite a few posts on here about the quality of their products. Each set comes with 17 sections and each section has 2 - 8" x 1 1/4" x 3/8" pieces...for a total of 34 pieces each. I ordered a set of Fire Roasted medium plus and a set of fire roasted heavy. Sounds like you can take each stick and split it in half and char the exposed end with a torch. That would provide 68 nice sized pieces from each set. Thought I would combine the medium plus and heavy for a nice flavor. So for me, I should have a total of 136 pieces.......should last me a long time! Don't mind paying freight for a great product. Shouldn't have to order for a long time again!

Hope this helps!

Thanks BB as well. Thought he might be looking for a source of toasted/charred wood rather than raw wood.
