Hi, was wondering what every1 rekons is the best amount of oak per litre to age ujssm. From what ive read the longer on oak the better, but I want to be drinking this stuff in 6 months, and giving it to family for Christmas ect. And want it to have a desirable colour and oak flavors by then.
As the last batch u aged too quick. And had to take off oak after a month. Still tasted fine after 3 months but.
Thanks for the help guys.

I am using American oak cut into 2cmx2cmx15cm toasted at 210 Celsius and charred.

12-18mmx12-18mmx125mm is what jimbo uses regularly. If I cinverted correctly that is 1/2-3/4"x1/2-3/4"x5".

I use two (approximately) 1/2"x3/4""x5" oak sticks per quart.

I've seen Corene state she uses 15 square inches per quart.

I put in 20g per litre. About 17 sticks. But after one night it was already taking on alot of colour. So I left 4 2x2x15 cm in 17l of 55% and took the rest out. That seem fair enough?

You can always add more but you can't take it out without redistilling. Explore to find what you like.

True. Its all trial and error. But I just wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction.

Not only is it trial and error but also a matter of personal taste.
