Are you wanting regular food grade molassus,or blackstrap? You should be able to find it somewhere in the orlando area.I used to live in castleberry back in 89-91.Its been so long that I cant remember what stores are down there.GFS Marketplace has some gallons, but the nearest one is in clearwater.

In canada we have a place called "bulk barn" they just sell bulk foods. I talked to the manger and they ordered me in a 25kg pail and they gave me a 10% discount. It came to $45 CAD for 25kg of molasis. Enough to make about 25 litres of finished 40%. good deal if you ask me. There has to be a store that deals in bulk items. Even grocery stores can order stuff for you if you talk to the right person.

If you have one, try an old timey hardware and seed store. Ace and others. They can look it up and order it. Be specific and don't do it by phone, in person. You will get a fair price vallue.

I've been buying molasses at the Feed and grain store for several years and it works fine and costs A$22.00 for 25 litres.

Can't go wrong at that price, and it makes a fine rum.

I get mine from a restaurant supplier ... just in case you have some connections in a restaurant or bakery. I get it by the 5 gal pail, which is 60 pounds.

They don't call it blackstrap on the order form, they call it "fancy dark molasses" but it is blackstrap.

I use feed molasses too. Get mine from a mate who shares the hobby (sugar/turbo wash for him though) but works in the feed supply industry, and it costs me $0.00 per 25 litre drum

Including the drum

delivered....

I fineally found a place where to buy the molasses and the price was excellant at approx US $.60 cents a gallon.

But there was a condition that I have to order a minimum amount.

Now I have a bigger problem....................................................

Read furthur down

Where the hell do I store 9500 gallons..............

They offered to deliver but I had to order 32 tons of it at a time

They did offer to try and find a place where they deliver closer to where I live and give me the number of the business. I am waiting on a phone call back for the name and number :)

1 direct manufacturer and about 15 feed stores later I found one that sells it in 5 gallon buckets for around US$4.00 a gallon and you get to keep the bucket.

The feed store told me they was sold out and I asked if they was going to order more and they did a order for me and I can get it in about 7 to 10 days.

The rum made from this better taste damn good for all the headache its given me to track down the blackstrap molasses

Hear in the mid west we have stores called Farm and fleet and Fleet Farm that sell feed molasses in gallon jugs for $6.82 I don't know if you can order it on line but if you live in the area of one that is one resource for you.

I found two local feed stores that sell the molassas. One sells it at US $20.00 for 5 gallons and give ya a really nice container with it. (I bought 5 gallons from them)

The 2nd store sells it around US $18.00 and I have yet to try theirs.

I started my first 5 gallon wash tonight (around 8pm) and it has a really strong molassas smell and is fermenting quite well.

I used a basic recipe of 1 gallon molassas, around 7 pounds white granulated sugar, 3 tsp of acid blend and 1 tsp distillers yeast and it has a SG 1.20 (16% Alch).

Question for someone? I bought these Oak Chips http://www.stompthemgrapes.com/Oak_Opti ... _3_oz.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow and was wondering if it would be good with the rum?

Suggestions please since this is my 1st attempt at rum made from molassas.

The still will be an all stainless steel pot still

Thats just the right kind of oak you need.Make sure to oak it at 60-65% and it will bring out the right flavors from the wood.Your rum should have lots of flavor, and you can go pretty heavy on the oak and not over do it.

same prob here, if you buy from the refinery (in hoa binh) that's the kind of deal u can get (100 ton etc...) and the price is dirt cheap but dont even mention small quantities to them.

I got mine (after a few days search) from a sugar retailer, they buy bulk sugar , package it and retail. For some unclear reason they also have a stock of molasses, goes for 3000 vnd a kg , that's about an usd per gallon.
minimum order is 100kg. Delivered to my house in 50 kg bags (hell to move these bags). I empty the bags in a 80 liters plastic trash container.

There are dead bees in the molasses, but that's part of the fun !!

I also found some potatoes molasses being a residue of glucose production. It gives a very nice vodka , and it's half the price of the cane molasses (but less thick).

Point is u may also check pple producing additives for the food industry in some B to B directory.

In the USA, the Amish have stores scattered all through the mid west including PA, OH, IN, IA, MO, etc. Here in Mo they are pretty common. I just bought 3 gallons of unsulphured BS for $6.50USD/gal. from one of their stores. They have their own plant in PA and it is packed by Good Food, Inc. under the brand Golden Barrel. Go to http://www.goldenbarrel.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. This is a retail site for the tourists but their food service items are sold and distributed by the Amish themselves. If you can find one of their stores they will special order bulk products for you (depending on the particular Elder in charge), you can negotiate some great prices) and there are usually no shipping charges. The Amish have no regard for what Costco or Sam's charge they generally go strictly by the cost plus a small profit. A good starting place could be Dutchman’s Store (319-397-2322) in Cantril IA or The Dutch Bakery & Bulk Food Store, 709 Highway 50 West, Tipton, MO 65081 (660) 433-2865. The later carries a large variety of sugars, cereals, grains, flavorings and spices in bulk quantities. They ask no questions, tell no stories and they are always grateful for your business. I hope this helps someone. :ewink:
