Hey all. I haven't been around in a while.
I have a simple pressure cooker with condenser that I have used in the past. Small unit but gets the job done.
Anyhow, I picked up the Brewhaus kettle but have not set it up or performed a run through it yet.
I came into possession of two full size beer kegs so I am thinking I may want to use those for some larger capacity boiling.
I also am leaning towards using a thumper but I have not used/designed up to this point.
My thoughts on this (waking at 4am I think of this stuff) are to get a soda/pony keg. I can cut it down to a 1-2gal capacity and re weld it together (I am an aircraft welder by trade). Is this overkill at this point? Perhaps I am thinking too much into this. I would like to stick with stainless as much as possible.
Thoughts, ideas?
Thanks!

Re: thumper and design question
I use 5 gallon corny keg that's been cut open to install the bubbler.
I didn't reweld it. Just used heat and cold and pressed the top back on.
I didn't get it on straight and couldn't get it apart again.
It has a 3/8 npt for a drain a 1" npt for the inlet and a 2-1/2 easy flange for the outlet.
There is a home made sight tube to measure the liquid level.
It will fill to around 1 or 2 gallons.
I recommend you don't make the thumper smaller that 3 or 4 gallons.

Sounds like a good plan. I was thinking that size might have been too large, but that may work out nicely. I saw another design where the output from the keg boiler went into the brewhaus kettle and that was acting as a thumper.

Use one of your beer kegs as the main boiler and the other one as a thumper

Re: thumper and design question
That's probably way too small. Your thumper should be, at a minimum, 1/3 to 1/2 the size of your boiler. If you have two kegs, follow the advice given above and use one for the boiler and the other for the thumper. As you learn and progress, you might find that there are many more uses for the thumper than you might have originally thought.Wasserwerks wrote:Hey all. I haven't been around in a while.
