reflux still - column packing

Dunno if this should got into the research and theory section but here goes:

I have a Nixon-stone type reflux still and have my column packed with SS-scrubbers. The scubbers are packed into the column until they reach the backflow tube from the cooling element. Above that I have a couple of inches of space until the tube which carries the vapour to the cooling element is reached.

Now my idea was to fill this empty space with scrubbers also, would there be any objections to that? I remember someone telling me to pack the column until the backflowtube is reached but I can't think of any objections to pack the column a bit higher but perhaps I am overlooking something?
