I have just finished my first sprit run of rum. In my last 2-3 jars (500ml) there are white floating things. Hard to describe. A bit like if a dropped a small amount of toilet paper in there, let it soak and shook it vigorously.
They are clumping togather. Im not too worried because I am not using it now but will be using it for my feints run down the line. Has anyone else ever seen this?
BTW - it was a molases rum wash on a 50 lt keg pot still.

Pretty common, cloudy, floaties, off taste, all are easy ways to tell that you are into the tails. No worries, it means you are doing it right. Save them up and run them in the next batch.
There is no such thing as a stupid question....... Unless you didn't research it first.

Re: Floaters in my tails
Never had floaties in my tails. If it is indeed something slimey/gooey I would be trying to figure out
Maybe it has something to do with sugarheads?

I think so Woodshed. It has only happened to me with sugarheads....and happens pretty predictably. Its actually a nice way to "help" with cuts, I usually see them after about 4-5 days of airing. I usually try to air for a full 7 days to really let the smell and flavors "settle".woodshed wrote:Never had floaties in my tails. Now I am curious if others have noticed this on sugarheads only?? When doing AG I have not seen it.
Well, between Scotch and nothin', I suppose I'd take Scotch. It's the nearest thing to good moonshine I can find.
