Do You Consider Yourself a Heavy Drinker?

Just found this today...

Women are considered "heavy drinkers" if they have eight or more drinks a week, according to the CDC. Men can have 14. At 15, you, my friend, are a "heavy drinker" in the eyes of the CDC.

A standard "drink," by the way, is not that big frosty mug or that giant Hurricane glass you kept from Mardi Gras. The CDC says a drink is 12 ounces of beer (5% alcohol content), 8 ounces of malt liquor (7% alcohol content), 5 ounces of wine (12% alcohol content), or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof (40% alcohol content) distilled spirits or liquor -- the fancy term for gin, rum, vodka, whiskey etc.

:esurprised:

Then, I'm a heavy drinker, but I could be a much much heavier drinker, IMHO.

I do not. I hope to be someday when I grow up. Back when I was in school I had an epiphany. All of the things that made me an interesting person were not helping in my pursuit of knowledge. So I gave it all up but I promised myself one day when I no longer had any responsibilities I would spend my remaining days on a beach somewhere. Penacoladas in one hand and my favorite smoke in the other.

I drink about every other day and always have exactly 2 drinks. I won't bother unless I can have 2. I will admit my glass is a bit larger, I'm no tea totaling bastard, but its not a huge mug neither.

Oh yeah... most days I drink a pint and a half of my favorite beer which is 7% ABV. That makes me heavy right there at 21 units per week, if I drink a beer everyday.

Then, averaging once a week I'll have drinks over at my neighbor's house who happens to be family. That looks like 12 ounces of 100% ABV, or 8 shots. So 10 units.

I'm at 31 units per week average. That is double heavy  :shh:

I can one up that!
I was a heavy drinker for a six day week but on Saturday alone I became a heavy drinker again!
It must be the bad company I keep. But then again what else do you do when you are on a camp out, at a vineyard, with a pig roast and several kegs that need to go back empty?

Exactly!!!
Saturday night I waddled to bed with my belly so full I could not put another beer or chunk of pork in my face without exploding!
Sunday morning we got up and fixed some bloody Mary's with my jalapeƱo/habanero fire water mix. Yummy!
Of course for breakfast we had pulled pork, potatoes and eggs. Mmmmm. I'm gonna have to start wearing stretchy pants if I am going to keep this up.

I used to drink 1 - 1.5 liters of 100 proof every day for years... What I drink now in a week is still less than what I drank in a day, by far... Aside from diabetes, which runs in my genetics, I'm in exceptional health for my age and most people think I'm a decade or two younger than I am... Those studies were likely done by wimps who probably puked every time they drank, until they just gave up... Maybe if I'd have been a puker I'd be a lot richer today than I am, and maybe not... I've watched a lot of friends drink themselves to death over the years and I made myself a personal promise that I'd never get to that point... That's my story and I'm sticking to it... :lolno:

I admit that I am a heavy drinker after work, but if I wasn't, insomnia would kill me. I can't sleep. If I drink a few stiff ones before I go to bed, I can get a few hours in. I refuse to take pills. Alcohol is my sleep medication.

Oh Man! You're worse off than we all thought. You have surpassed "Heavy Drinker", and have advanced to the ever dangerous and super-unhealthy "Binge Drinker" stage!

If'n yer not careful, next thing you know, it'll be 3 week benders in Las Vegas.

What's that you said Soggy? You are picking me up on the way through for a 3 week bender in Vegas? Does that make you the designated driver?

My lifelong main buddy and I went 30 years consuming a fifth of liquor and a case of beer each per day as a maintenance level . Some evenings we got into serious drinkin and the consumption level went way up . We both just drink on a casual basis now . No addiction problems or health issues . Just matured enough to change our lifestyles .

I'll start saving up my fores and heads, you do the same, and we can cut way down on the gas money it takes to get there! ...and don't forget to wear your DAMM(Drunks Against Mad Mothers) shirt so that I can recognize you when I get there. :D

Nope. I'm 140 lbs, and somehow the ole CDC says I equal two heavy drinkers... :lolno:

That makes you 2.42857142858 heavy drinkers!

+1

My medicine for that is about a fifth a week and 2 beers a night, except weekend days where I might put 6-8 pints down, depending on what we're doing (like hanging out with friends and drinking  )

I can't be a heavy drinker.
Alcohol has a lower specific gravity than water.
Therefor, I'm a light drinker

Just how so they figure these stats? Larger body mass can tolerate more liquor before being "impaired", so does this mean a larger person can drink more and not be a heavy drinker? Or what about that person we all know who can be pissed after 4 shots?

I drink about 4-8 oz per day, but not all at once. I don't drink for the drunk like I did in younger days. I enjoy a sip here and there. And I so go days, or sometimes weeks without a drop. So what do they consider that?

It was In response to the OP original post. Sorry for confusion. I just hate statistics. They are always so misleading.
