Stainless Sink Drain troubles

Post by p_su »

I am trying to build the bokakob mini still - and am having trouble with the stainless sink drain fitting. I have searched around on the forums, but didn't find info specific enough to help me out. The problem I'm having is attaching the 1.5" pipe to the drain. I have a copper fitting that takes a 1.5" threaded to a slip connection for pipe, but the threads don't match those on the sink. The zinc slip nut that the drain came with won't go around my copper pipe either (not actually using it - but just for test-fit purposes). Is the brass version of that slip nut just soldered to the very end of the pipe - it the pipe doesn't go thru at all? Or is there another type of drain fitting that is better suited? I saw some with extended threaded ends on them (mine is only 1/2" or so) - would one of those be easier to use?
thanks for the help out all.

Bokokob shows his on the design sheet as being soldered, so would presume that for 11/2 pipe maybe it does not slip in. You may be able to grind or file sufficiently to allow a thru fit as that would be stronger.

That would say to me that your hammer isn't big enough.

Mine came with a thin brass nut that does match the threads on the drain. I then soldered the brass nut directly to the bottom of the 1.5" copper tube like the design showed. maybe you could get a different drain kit if this one isn't working out.

Thanks all - just wanted to double check that I wasn't trying to put a square peg into a round hole, if I wasn't supposed to. Otherwise I'll just start grinding and hammering... hopefully I'll end up with a workable device.

Thats the idea, anything to make it work.
You can always make it fancy later on.

During my days as a maintenance fitter/welder we had an expression that said, "when all else fails, use a heavier hammer."

Good to see that the old skills still exist.

Not a hammer, a "manual precision adjustment tool" :)
