Hi - I'm a big time DIY person. I hate paying for something I can make myself. Until now, I've limited myself to things like homemade bread, homemade laundry soap, and stuff such as that. I've ventured into hard cider (made something awfully strong!) and beer (good taste, but never got the carbonation worked out right), and I'm thinking I'd like to try distilling a basic whiskey. There is a LOT to learn, and I'm glad this site exists. Thanks!

Welcome Whiskey. You should fit in well here. Most are DIYers here. Check out the links in my signature.

Welcome to a place you can spend large amounts of time reading, learning and developing your talents. Play safe and spend a bit of time doing your research and I know you will be a better distiller and produce a much better product.
Cheers!

Thanks to all! I definitely need to "hold my horses" since I'm the one who wants to start "NOW NOW NOW!" So I will read, read, read instead.

Welcome, fellow Ohioan. This is a great place to learn and get advice from other enthusiasts. My advice is read, read and read some more...then make. I've had good success with some of the recipes such as "Winos Sugar Wash". Very high proof, smooth and clean.
