Hello,

I have a 65,000 BTU propane burner and I'm sort of a novice when it comes to using these. In the manual, it says to have a blue flame and adjust the flue to get it there, I did that and it heats EXTREMELY slow, like from 74 to 84 in an hour... Now, I turned it up a bit and there's a little bit of orange flame there, not much... But... Is this safe to run with a not completely blue flame for an extended period?

Also, it's running in a garage with both doors half open, probably about 25 by 20 foot garage, is that safe?

This is a 15 gallon keg for the boiler...

Lastly, how many runs does one typically get from a 20 LBS propane tank?

Would appreciate any advice you could bestow upon me.

I run a propane burner also. When I do my heat up, I adjust the flu to make the flame blue. A little orange at the tips won't hurt anything.

I've been running mine for 5 batches now on a 5 gal pot. Also a 20 lb tank.

I run a propane torch rigged up to a steel rim, 50 litre keg. I can go from start to drips in about 40-45 min, also in garage with door open, the only thing with the orange flame is you get soot on the bottom of your still, easy to clean off though, my collection point is approx 4 feet from my burner, and my tank is roughly 10 feet away.

The yellow color will suet up the bottom of the boiler but is harmless.

What's the reference to regulator color?

Mostly green low
Red high

Thanks Goose mines red and it throws the heat, up to boil in 20-30 minutes.

Runnin propane is my preference . First order of business is to install a high quality CO monitor in your operating area . The danger from carbon monoxide in an area not ventilated well enough can never be overstated . Watch that monitor . If it beeps the first time it is time to shut down and redo ventilation . Co will not give you a second chance if you ignore it .

The yellow/orange flame means your not getting complete combustion. Open the air inlet all the way and let it rip.

I have two, after a while where I live the humidity will start to corrode the burner causing much yellow flame and much soot. I keep a clean one to swap out when this happens. Mine come apart where the bolt goes through making it easy to wire brush and clean up like new!

Mines been making more suet gonna have to take it apart and clean it up, maybe that will help.
