Carobs

Post by udiraz »

Hi all.
Did anyone tried to distill something from carobs ?
I just tasted today carobs brandy, it was really lovely. I don't have any details about it - how was it done, ABV etc, but I will try to find out, although I noticed that people here (in Israel) are not very willing to share their knowledge about making alcohol. I have no idea why.

Wikipedia says that carobs (dry) contains about 50% sugar, and it is common to use it as substitute to chocolate, we also make here in Israel what we call "carob honey", which is not bee honey from carobs flowers, but a very concentrated carob syrup, so that it becomes like honey in texture.

Well, I think it is a great idea for me to try this, since I can get carobs with just some effort of picking them up, but it will probably cost me nothing. I just have to look for trees here, and try. and try, and try :-)

If you have any experience with Carobs - please write here.

Thanks !
