Anyone recognize what this is?

In our view 30 gallons and under is considered hobby size. Do not bring anything larger than this to our site.

Anyone recognize what this is?

Post by craftdist »

Hello All,

I've been hanging around learning as much as I can. I love this place and all the knowledge.

Anyway I was looking for a tank that I could use for a steam boiler that cold be used with a mash tun when I found this on craigs list.

I found this on craigs list. The person didn't know what it was from but said it was clean and had no strange smells. It is about 10 gallons and now I am thinking of using it for a double boiler for mashing using an electric element in a keg.

It looks real clean in and out but would like to know what it was used for previously.

Actually picture one does have the whole tank in it. The flex tube on the top with some kind of flange on it.

I picked it up for $40.

Is there another angle you would like me to take? I have since removed the flex tube and flange.

The heavy 4 bolt flange appears to connect to the business end a header maybe. The flex hose has a 6 hole pattern at the flange and the tank end for anchor connection vibration eliminator? Tank looks threaded to flex. I have seen Ansul systems that looked like that in large hazardous areas. It is a custom application for sure so just guessing.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I should have given a little better description or maybe more pictures so here goes the description.

This tank is a perfect cylinder with a rounded bottom and only one entrance which is the flexible pipe on the right hand in the first picture. It looks like what a corny keg would look like with out the rubberized bottom if there were no spot for the liquid tube molded into the bottom. Pretty sure it was not a muffler as there is only one way in or out. Just baffles me as to what it would be used for except for maybe some kind of vacuum chamber or something like that.

I'm with Grandad and Goose.
Reminds me of an expansion chamber of some sort.
