historical maps/legends

I live in the New England area and I have heard/read that New England was a center for Rum production. I have been trying to find a map of the old distilleries or any info/interesting stories about the local history.

If anyone can help out that would be great.

I think most any big farm or land holder had a distillery and sold it as a "winter" or cash commodity...then the taxation issue raised it's head...
