Mesh packing
I have a 10 gallon copper pot, cap, thumper and worm. After viewing all the schematics I could find, and finding a template to go by, it's built. My question is this and it's just because there are no clear views online of the inside of the bugger running. Do you pack the cap, or cap arm with copper mesh and toasted wood chips? Or is that only with a reflux column?
Re: Mesh packing
I can only guess what you mean by cap, but with a copper pot still and thumper, there is no need to pack the still head and lyne arm, or anything else with any other name with anything.
Re: Mesh packing
Just the reflux for packing as far as I am aware, it aids the reflux process. My pot still works just fine by boiling your product which creates the vapour which then travels thru the lyne arm, thru the thumper (should you have one) then thru your condenser.... be it a worm, shotgun or similar. The good stuff flows from there. Read up on making your cuts in your product by using the HD Google up the very top of this site...good luck.

Got any pics of your rig? We love us some copper porn round here. You don't need any packing unless you're inducing some kind of reflux. The toasted oak chips go in your final product, not anywhere in the still. Keep reading and researching. Run a few runs of UJSSM or similar through that thing and learn how it drives. You'll get there.
No, officer, I wasn't distilling alcohol! It was probably that guy!
