Producer's Pride Cracked Corn vs. Other

Post by BayouShine »

I wanted to run this by the members that are using Producer's Pride Cracked Corn.

Have any of you noticed a reduction in starch yield compared to any other corn?

I decided to give the Producer's Pride a try this year because it's half the price of what I've been using. I just finished up the first 50lb bag, and there's a noticeable decrease in my SGs across every recipe.

I'm currently making some Booner's and Jimbo's Wheated Bourbon.
At 2lb/gal on the Booner's, my old SG was 1.050-1.052. Now, I'm lucky to see 1.043-1.045. Same with Jimbo's recipe.

The crack size is about the same as what I used to have, pH is within range, conversion to sugar is good and everything ferments out dry (.998).

I know it's only a 1% ABV decrease, but that comes out to a 13.5% reduction in yield compared to last year.

Anybody else seeing this?
