Only reason I ask the following is because I like to experiment. I have activated carbon, a valved reflux head, and a couple of other still heads... and have done various things with each knowing what to expect depending on the process and equipment used.

While looking back over the site I found reference to potassium permanganate and wondered if anyone is using it in combination with baking soda to clean their vodka?

do you mean to use it before the last run? then the KMnO4 will come in contact with the metal of the boiler. since KMnO4 is a very strong oxidator, it might (will) oxidate you boiler and form oxides (~rust)
but concentrations are low, and it's possible you won't notice a thing
I've never tried it.
