your dream still

What is your dream still, not something you dream.and do nothing about. Your dream still you want to build, are building?. Got diagrams, pictures?

I would love to build a six or eight inch wide bubble cap with sight windows. Possibly 4 or six feet tall. Make it big enough to handle the volume if I can make my dreams a reality and go pro.
Isn't that what we all really want. To get paid to do what we love to do?

Or maybe just never ending design and build projects.

A female friend of mine sent me some pictures from a distillery she was visiting in Wisconsin.

Sexy damn still.

Some strange kind of aphrodisiac!
What is this world coming to when a sexy single woman sends you picks of beautiful perfect stills.

6" modular with 10 plates and a nice boiler. I'd like it to run good vodka or switch it to a four plate for nice whiskey

Computer controlled, with remote access from my phone, laptops etc., so that I don't have to sweat my butt off in summer, freeze it off in winter, or shut down just to nip down to the shops or the liars bench for a couple of hours. I have most of the hardware I need to do it.

A little off topic.. sourcing a large restaurant style ss sink with sprayer and room on sides to set things to dry. Sure would make cleaning everything a breeze.

My dream still will be a 20 gallon copper pot still, used to distill on the grain or must.
It will use indirect electric heat and have multiple tri-clamp ferrules welded on it.
2" drain and fill ports, 3" output and 6" man hole for cleaning.
The man hole cover will have an agitator mounted on it.

I really don't think about it much... que dream sequence...steam jacketed boiler that could handle AG's without separation...using not steam, but unending very hot water...from a hot spring!

The boiler would have a big manway in the bottom (like some mash tuns I've seen, or some Koth stills) so you open it and just rake the spent mash out the side.

The vapor exits the top via a 2" SS pipe that goes over the side to a three way vale, then to the free standing column(s) or straight to a huge SS shotgun condenser. One 4" x 48" Random packed with SPP, dephl on top. Maybe one big bubble cap... say 6" with three or four plates. All of which is switchable to that big shotgun condenser.

I want SS milk cans to collect my goodies in...some gallon size for fores and heads and five gallon for hearts and tails.

The spent water from the boiler and condenser goes to the hot tub...got to relax after a run, eh?

Mom, mommmm, no I don't have to go to school today...ohhh....end dream sequence...

6" copper modular plated still fed by a copper onion head boiler, maybe a carter head module for shits and giggles , temp controlled mash tun might be a nice touch to

Over the past couple years I've been working on a still like this. I've completed my column and dephlemater and and as time allows I work on the boiler with top/whiskey head and its 12kw 50 amp controller. Eventually I'll get it finished. It seems to be taking forever though as life sometimes seems to get in the way. I'm sorry that I can't post photos as this site doesn't condone a still of this size and design as hobby level. The way I look at it though is it's just a great big hobby.

It's my dream still though.

For me....Woodshed's...with a commercial distiller's license, so I could actually get a paycheck for the hobby I enjoy so much.

Come to think of it...that DaftMill Distillery is a nice one too. On a farm in Scotland. Sweet!
ss

p.s. - it's funny how I've got more friends now who like to come see what's brewing (and more) now. I guess it's an addicting hobby for us and those who sample with us.

I have a 1.5m piece of 5" copper pipe with a 2mm wall thickness that keeps catching my day dreaming attention. Would love to build a copper 6" offset plated column setup to fuel my micro distillery dreams :D I found a photo of a micro setup, I really like how its designed and set out... would be happy with just the little unit on the right bubbling away in my workshop

Know where your coming from Google, waiting for EG to set up a 6" ferrule press or jig to spin them up, full 6" union runs into some serious coin

I think my dream still would be more about my dream still house. 20x40 building with concrete slab, 220v, full bathroom with showers, heat and AC, maybe a small bar set up and lounge area with a couple couches and a tv. A nice big stereo too. And it would be far enough from other people nobody could bother me. Plenty of space to run stills, build stills, store aging product and supplies, and room for fermenters. In this dream I would also have lots of time to spend in it.. and money would be no object so I wouldn't be in the business of selling it.

A guy can dream right?

6", 4 bubblecap plate, semi-modular all-copper bubbler on an 80L boiler. With a 3" Carter head hanging off the top of it.

Wait; I'm already building that! :D

On the issue of 6" tri clamp unions being pricey...found some 180mm dia. Stainless steel 10mm thick discs sold as offcuts from my metal supplier for $30 a pair :D want to make 6" pipe flanges from them for a 6" SS column section or inline thumper section. Have to find a lathe that can chuck the discs to machine the centre diameter, make up some silicon baking sheet gaskets and drill an tap 6 or 8 M6 holes for clamping the joint.

I think most hobby distillers would dream of cheaper tri clamps, finding free copper pipe and having good metal working skills, tools and cash to create their dream still or just be happy with one of EG's modular 4" bubblers

My dream still? Made from some ultra-durable material like inconel or hastelloy so it withstands everything and never decays, so small and light it could be just dumped away in a wardrobe etc, electric heating, size 30-40 liters and makes a few liters of azeotropic neutral alcohol then and now when I happen to need it with a press of a button.

I'm dreaming of a modular column with 4" stainless tees, 4-6 plates sitting on a squat 20gal boiler.

3.5" boro glass column packed with clear glass marbles, CCVM with a glass tee at the top and CSST reflux and product condensers.
