Greetings!

Post by NurseDan89 »

I am new to the world of distillation. I am in the process of homebrewing my first batch of beer and was recently gifted a personalized barrel to age my own spirits in. The barrel is from Swish Barrel and I would greatly appreciate some advice in my starting project before I get really serious. I've been told to mix the essences with a neutral vodka or grain alcohol and different people have recommended different proofs. The essence is of Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey and any advice on how to make the first product a success would help. Can't wait to learn!

Welcome NurseDan. One of our members put together a thread that I have in my signature for someone to start learning about this hobby. That is where I would start. Kentucky bourbon whiskey like is very possible for you to make. It is also very possible that you can make something better. Don't shortcut your education. Your drink will thank you.

Welcome NurseDan89, I'm kinda confused about your question, do you want to make your own spirits or are you going to buy them and use the essence? If your going to make them you need to read, start at crankys post in novice distillers called spoon feeding for new distillers, it has everything you'll need to know to make your own. If your going to buy your spirit and use the essence there is a post in flavoring and aging about them. Good luck!

Thanks, guys. Lots of helpful information already! I'm in the middle of a few homebrewing projects and am aging my own spirits on the side in the personal barrel but hope to eventually go full distilling. Can't wait to learn more!
