Another Proof That Aluminum Sucks

I've been using an aluminum turkey fryer pot as my condenser reservoir and yesterday it started to leak when I refilled it. On further examination, from contact with water and some bleach to keep the water clean, small spots of corrosion are showing up all over the outside of the pot. I heated some bee's wax, plugged the hole and finished the run with no more leakage....however I now ordered a 10gal SS pot of Ebay and it'll be here before the next wash clears.

I had a turkey fryer pot that I left outside in the carport after cooking a turkey. Of course, then comes thanksgiving and xmass and I forgot about the pot. Sometime around April I noticed a ring of grease around the pot's base. I picked it up and there was a small puddle of turkey grease under the pot in the concrete. I cleaned the pot really well. Never could see a hole, but some slight pitting. I guess it was enough to let the grease migrate through. Aluminum can definitely be bad.

Caustic liquids will dissolve the aluminium while acidic liquids will dissolve the alloying metals causing pitting.
