Been researching the builds on these, can these be purchased from plumbing supply houses ready to go? Also I have an old kiln with a controller on it, would that be what I am looking for? Looking to use a heating element in a keg, probably 5500w.

I don't know about plumbing supply houses, but you can get the package to build one from Still Dragon for pretty cheap.

Or you could buy the parts individually from amazon or another source. The wires and the plugs are the most expensive parts.

Mulekicker a member that hasn't been around for a couple years used to build and sell them here, he also gives a pretty good detailed description on how to build one.

so for under $50 I could build all the controls and just need to add power cord and element? I get a real good deal at a local plumbing source which is why I was wondering if there were a controller for a boiler or something I could use.

I suspect the controller at your plumber's shop is a thermostatic controller as used on a water heater. You don't want a temperature control circuit. You NEED a heat control circuit. It controls the heat input, via current regulation or phase angle. It is a power controller, not a temperature controller.

Double check with your plumber shop to see what they actually offer before buying something that won't work for you.

Temp controllers are off/on. You need to vary the power input.

thanks guys, I was just wondering if a plumbing shop would have something that could be adapted, but it seems I will source the parts out and build it myself
